Palmetto tornado aftermath: Friends helping friends after 5 homes in pieces

Palmetto tornado aftermath: Friends helping friends after 5 homes in pieces, The Palmetto tornado left five homes heavily damaged in its wake at this 55+ mobile park. It didn't take long after the Palmetto tornado swept through the area for folks to start assessing the damage and start the cleanup process, according to the Bradenton.com website on July 10, 2013.

It's times like these when folks pull together to help one another. Nancy and John Kadlick lived in one of the five homes that were badly damaged by the Palmetto tornado. They spent this morning with neighbors packing up the things they could salvage and luckily were able to move just two doors down to a home that was vacant.

Nancy said when the tornado hit, the couple was watching TV, all of the sudden they could see the sky. Their belongings were flying across the room. She then told him to get down on the floor. Nancy recalled their plight today sitting in the only room left in her demolished house that had a roof over it.

The area impacted by the tornado was 28th Avenue West and Edessa Drive. Tuesday night the power was already restored to residents homes in that area. During the day neighbors were stopping by in cars and golf carts to check on the Kadlicks. They were sorry to see their home sustained so much damage, but happy to see them alive.

One neighbor, whose home suffered minor damage, likened the tornado to that of a theme park ride with the noise and vibration. He was sitting in a rocking chair when the tornado hit.

The Kadlicks were lucky to have found a home to move into, as their home will need to be flatten to the ground. Still the other families whose homes were demolished are relying on the red cross because they have nowhere to go.
