The exoplanet is 63 light-years away from Earth and was spotted by the Hubble Telescope. When explaining the conditions on the planet, scientists called it a hot Jupiter. How hot? Way hot. The study says the planet can reach 1,832 degrees Fahrenheit and the glass rain storms blow at 4,350 mile per hour.
The Guardian cites Frederic Pont at Exeter University saying that the blue color is likely caused by the “fine mist of silicate particles” that are blown around.
While this planet isn’t the next Earth, scientists weren’t crushed by that discovery. However, they are excited about being able to see color on alien planets. By being able to identify the color of alien planets, scientists will be able to better determine which planets are habitable, because cloud cover will become easier to find.
However, the replacement for the Hubble Telescope will only pick up infra-red information.
