It seems that this fish oil study has revealed that these fatty acids — commonly found in fish pill supplements and oily fish products — are linked with people having high levels of these oils in their bloodstream, leading to a higher risk of getting prostate cancer.
The fish oil study focuses on omega3 fatty acids. Despite this new potential harmful nature, these fatty acids found in fish have received very positive opinions from medical experts in the past, as they reportedly are able to lower overall blood pressure as well as bad cholesterol levels. It has also been thought that they might also help protect the body from heart disease and inflammatory issues.
Yet a new study on fish oil has discovered that men diagnosed with prostate cancer had “significantly” higher levels of these fish oils and omega-3 fatty acids than other men in the study that did not have the cancer.
A total of 834 men were participants in the fish oil study. Of those that had increased levels of different subtypes of omega-3 fatty acids, more than 43% were at a higher risk of prostate cancer than were the men that had lower overall levels.
The men with the greatest levels of fatty acids in the fish oil study had a dangerously high 71% risk to have very aggressive prostate tumors as well. It is yet unclear as to why these fatty acids could be linked to a prostate cancer risk.
Yet following this latest fish oil study, men in particular should be wary of taking in too much sushi, supplemental pills, or fish n’ chips for a while, it seems.
