Kandahar attack: Eight women, two children killed in Kandahar bombing

Kandahar attack: Eight women, two children killed in Kandahar bombing, A Kandahar attack has left eight women and two children dead this week following a fatal bombing in the Kandahar province of Afghanistan, UPI reported this Tuesday, July 9. The ten were killed in a sudden explosion on the road. It is believed that the Taliban was behind the attack.

The Kandahar attack marks the latest sign of violence related to Taliban offensives. It appears that the bombing occurred while the victims were riding in a minibus. According to an official statement from a Kandahar government spokesman:

"The ill-fated minibus was traveling from Zharay district to neighboring Khakrez. The bus touched off the bomb placed along the road in Khakrez district while in the Kandahar province. The explosion killed eight women and two children on the spot at about 8:00 a.m. local time.”

Outside of the Kandahar attack, Taliban members have allegedly been using various explosive devices to fire sudden bomb attacks throughout the province. Although government and security forces are often the targets, it is civilians more often than not who are the victims of such violence.

Since only the start of this year, over 2,000 civilians have been injured or killed in Afghanistan.

In terms of other tragic terroristic attacks that have been making the news, Yobe school killings from Islamic extremists this week claimed the lives of 42 students in Nigeria.
